The Lacrosse Helmet is one of the most important pieces of equipment you will own as a lacrosse player. And that is because it protects the most important part of your body, your melon!
Always remember to check with the manufacturer concerning proper fitting and care for the helmet you purchase.
Cheapest is not necessarily the most important factor when considering which helmet to buy. Favor the model that offers the best protection, regardless of price.
Make sure it fits well.
Consult the manufacturers instructions for fitting. It should not be too
tight or too loose. It should fit snug, and there should not be excess movement of the head inside the helmet.
Never use your helmet to hit an opponent with.
Serious injury and death can occur by improper use of the helmet.
Take good care of your lacrosse helmet and keep it clean.
Better helmets will have removable linings that can be washed.
Wash your helmet in plain water or follow manufacturer recommendations.
Consult the manufacturer before you paint your helmet.
Paint can damage modern materials that the helmets are made out of. We do not recommend that you paint your helmet unless the manufacturer recommends it.
If your helmet is damaged, replace it.
Helmets can be re certified, but we suggest the safest route is to just replace it. It just is not worth the risk in our opinion
For most organizations your helmet must be
NOCSAE approved
Check for the NOCSAE Sticker on the helmet
*Note: These are only suggestions, and should not be taken as anything more than that. Always consult the manufacturers recommendations when purchasing a new helmet. Remember that lacrosse is a contact sport and even with a properly fitted helmet severe injury and death can occur. Please be safe and respect the risks.
