Toronto hosts Calgary to open the 2012 NLL season

The National Lacrosse League has announced the 2012 regular season schedule, which begins on Sunday, January 8th in Toronto. The 16-game regular season schedule for each team will conclude on April 28th.The season begins on Faceoff Weekend with the opening game on Sunday, January 8 at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. Josh Sanderson makes his return to the defending champion Toronto Rock as they face the Calgary Roughnecks, the defending champions of the Western Division regular season and owners of the league's best regular season record in 2011.
Highlights include two meetings between the Washington Stealth & Toronto Rock, who have faced each other in each of the last two NLL Championship Games. The rivals play at Toronto on March 3 and at Washington on April 20.
Calgary and Edmonton will continue one of the league's fiercest rivalries as they face each other four times in 2012: February 18 & March 10 in Calgary, and on March 9 and April 21 in Edmonton.
The long-standing rivalry between the Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks continues with three meetings during the season: at Rochester on January 21 & March 10, and at Buffalo on April 21. The January 21 game is the Knighthawks' home opener. Rochester re-acquired Casey Powell during the off-season, marking a return to the team where he started his pro career in 1999.
The Philadelphia Wings open their season at Wells Fargo Center on January 14 vs. Rochester. Philadelphia acquired two of the game's biggest talents in Dan Dawson and Brodie Merrill during the off-season.
The Colorado Mammoth are preparing to celebrate their tenth season of play at Pepsi Center in Denver. The Mammoth open their 2012 season at home on January 14 vs. the Minnesota Swarm. Minnesota opens its home schedule at Xcel Energy Center on January 28 vs. Buffalo.
The 2012 Playoffs will begin on the weekend of May 5th. An announcement regarding the league's playoff format will be forthcoming at a later date.
